Bignoniaceae

Opposite, often compound leaves, with climbing members frequently ending a leaf in a tendril or clinging pad; large bilaterally symmetrical, trumpet-shaped flowers fuse their petals into a broad tube, ripening into a long slender capsule packed with papery winged seeds.

Many members are woody lianas that climb using modified leaflets rather than true tendrils; the deep-tubed, nectar-rich flowers are strongly adapted for bee, moth, or bird pollination.

To check whether a plant belongs to Bignoniaceae, compare the leaf arrangement, leaf type, flower symmetry, fruit type, and one distinctive marker together. A single feature can mislead; the family pattern is the combination.
