This vigorous climbing vine, known as தந்கா பூ Tanga pu (Tamil), ಜಿಲೇಬಿಬಳ್ಳಿ Jilebi balli (Kannada), ജനുവരി മുല്ല (Malayalam), संक्रांत वेल (Marathi), কমলা ঢাক লতা (Bengali), is grown for its spectacular winter display of orange flowers. Pyrostegia venusta is grown across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal, often covering fences, arbours and walls.
Uses
It's grown almost entirely as an ornamental, valued for smothering fences and trellises in a dense curtain of bright orange, tubular flowers during the cooler months.
