Psilotaceae

A rootless, leafless vascular plant reduced to simple, repeatedly forking green stems that carry out all photosynthesis themselves; small, yellow, three-lobed spore capsules sit directly on the stem at the fork points instead of on any leaf.

One of the structurally simplest vascular plants alive, with no true leaves or roots at all — a living link to some of the very earliest land plants that first evolved a vascular system.
